Big movie weekend

Last night my hubby and I went to see Jumper and I have to say it left a little to be desired. It was a great concept, but they needed to balance the Sci-Fi with the Action a little bit better.

Possible Spoiler Alert- Turn back now if need be, or scroll down quickly to the next bolded notice.

The movie focused mostly on the war between the Jumpers and the Paladins that is going on without the world knowing. The fight scenes were pretty kewl, the characters are somewhat interesting, the world-wide scenes were awesome. The concept is sweet, but there was NO back story. Seriously- the only explanation we get is a brief statement saying the Paladins are the same group from the dark ages and that they're religious zealots who think Jumpers are an abomination to God. Seeing that the main character is a Jumper and his mom is a Paladin, that back story is just a little important.

After seeing the movie, here are my questions: Who are the Paladins really? How does one become a Paladin- by birth, stumble into it? What is behind the Jumper's abilities? Is it genetic? Why did the Paladins kill the other Jumper's parents- because he is a Jumper or because they were? There are more questions rattling around in my brain, but I'm hoping some of this stuff comes up in the sequel they SOOOO
obviously setup at the end.

SPOILER OVER!!! You're safe now!

My other movie for the weekend will hopefully be Spiderwick. I haven't read the books (though I probably should have) but the movie looks very promising. What can I say, I'm a little kid at heart. Most of my favorite movies are kids movies- Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, Drop Dead Fred, Goonies, Legend, The Land of Far Away - all kids movies though Fred may be more appropriate for slightly older children. Guess that's all for now. Review of Spiderwick to come soon!
